A native of São Paulo, Brazil, pianist Helio Alves combines the rhythmic complexity of modern Brazilian music with the edgy energy of contemporary jazz. A resident of NYC since the '90s, Alves has received high praise as an in-demand sideman with the likes of Joe Henderson, Yo-Yo Ma, Sadao Watanabe, Slide Hampton, Airto Moreira & Flora Purim, Paquito D'Rivera, Joyce, and Rosa Passos to name but a few. Helio has also released four albums under his own name: "Trios" (1998), "Portrait in Black & White" (2004), "It's Clear" (2009) and most recently, "Musica" featuring Antonio Sanchez, Reuben Rogers, Claudio Roditi and Romero Lubambo. Mike Clark gained worldwide recognition as one of America’s foremost jazz and funk drummers while playing with Herbie Hancock in the early seventies. His incisive playing on Hancock’s “Actual Proof” garnered him an international cult following and influenced generations of drummers. While Mike digs the funk, he consider jazz his first love, and playing that music is what he says feeds his soul. Joshua2 is a prolific visual artist, civil rights activist, and singer/songwriter. Since moving to New York in 2013, he has created a unique blend of Pentacostal Blues music, Black history, and civil rights storytelling. While performing throughout Harlem and Manhattan in such clubs as Red Rooster, Silvana’s, Minton’s, Lenox Saphire, Paris Blues, Smoke, Ashford and Simpson’s Sugar Bar. he earned the nickname “The Reverend.” His band is comprised of notable musicians Ken Hatfield (lead guitar), George Gray (drums), Gene Torres (bass), and Marcus Persiani (keyboard). They have toured and performed with some of the best musicians and bands known, such as Dizzy Gillespie, Max Roach, Tito Puente, Stephanie Mills, Pat Benatar, Toni Braxton, Ben E. King, Eartha Kitt, Talking Heads, Earth, Wind, & Fire, and Sun Ra Arkestra, just to name a few.
