Queens based pianist Marius Van Den Brink is one of the most in demand musicians of his generation and for good reasons. His perfect accompaniment along with his fierce leading style make him a double threat and one to be reckoned with. He has performed and recorded with well-known artists such as Jeff 'Tain' Watts, Joel Frahm, Willie Jones III, Ingrid Jensen, Ara Dinkjian, Sean Jones, Haley Reinhart, the Birdland Big Band and the Tonkunstler Orchestra. Raised in a house full of music with influences including Gospel, Classical, Blues and Jazz, John couldn’t help but pursue music. Boasting a robust, swinging sound all his own, Mr Smith is a voice worth attention and a talent not to be missed. John has appeared at Carnegie Hall, Alice Tully Hall at Lincoln Center, the legendary Apollo and Beacon Theatres, The Red Rooster (Harlem), and nearly every famous Jazz café in New York City including the Blue Note, Showman’s Jazz Club, Fat Cat Club, Dizzy’s Coca-Cola Club, and Patrick’s Place (Harlem) and Jazz venues throughout the country. Mike Clark gained worldwide recognition as one of America’s foremost jazz and funk drummers while playing with Herbie Hancock in the early seventies. His incisive playing on Hancock’s “Actual Proof” garnered him an international cult following and influenced generations of drummers. While Mike digs the funk, he consider jazz his first love, and playing that music is what he says feeds his soul. Joshua2 is a prolific visual artist, civil rights activist, and singer/songwriter. Since moving to New York in 2013, he has created a unique blend of Pentacostal Blues music, Black history, and civil rights storytelling. While performing throughout Harlem and Manhattan in such clubs as Red Rooster, Silvana’s, Minton’s, Lenox Saphire, Paris Blues, Smoke, Ashford and Simpson’s Sugar Bar. he earned the nickname “The Reverend.” His band is comprised of notable musicians Ken Hatfield (lead guitar), George Gray (drums), Gene Torres (bass), and Marcus Persiani (keyboard). They have toured and performed with some of the best musicians and bands known, such as Dizzy Gillespie, Max Roach, Tito Puente, Stephanie Mills, Pat Benatar, Toni Braxton, Ben E. King, Eartha Kitt, Talking Heads, Earth, Wind, & Fire, and Sun Ra Arkestra, just to name a few. Hammond B-3 organist Kyle Koehler grew up hearing and then playing with some of the jazz masters (Shirley Scott, Charles Earland, etc.). After receiving a degree in music performance and composition, Kyle moved to New York City in the late 90s, where he has made quite a name for himself. Besides leading his own trio, he has performed with some of the top names in jazz , Lou Donaldson, David 'Fathead' Newman, Bobby Watson and Jimmy Heath. He has been on numerous recordings and recently completed two tours of Japan, promoting his critically acclaimed CD "EXIT 13" with drummer Sylvia Cuenca and guitarist Dave Stryker. Kyle was voted as a "Rising Star" in the Downbeat Critics Poll. Please join us and welcome Mr Koehler to the UC stage at his debut as a leader! She leads a new generation of performers, inhabiting her individuality as a member of an international artistic community, and reconfiguring the identity of “jazz fusion” for our current moment. Alison gathered her eponymous Quartet, with Kevin Bernstein, keys, Marty Kenney, bass, and Horace Phillips, drums, in 2015. She writes most of the group’s music, and their soulful, groovy, melodic take on fusion found immediate acclaim in New York City, where they got their start.
