Joy Brown is the favorite vocalist of a great number of jazz fans and musicians on the NYC scene. A native of Newark, NJ. Joy F. Brown received her initial musical training in the Pentacostal church under the tutelage of her father, a singer and musician. She began singing solos at the age of five; and it was in the church that Joy tapped into the ability to "feel the spirit" of a song. Hailing from Porto Alegre in Southern Brazil but now based in Brooklyn, New York, jazz guitarist and composer Marcio Philomena creates music that reflects his experience as an international troubadour. Marcio has performed with names such as Nilson Matta, Helio Alves, Rafael Barata, Alex Kautz, John Ellis, and many others. Philomena first picked up an acoustic guitar at the age of 11. By 13, he had discovered a love of jazz after seeing his music teacher play through a book of Pat Martino transcriptions. After receiving a scholarship to Berklee College of Music to study guitar and production, he was selected as a semi-finalist in the Montreux Jazz Festival Guitar Competition 2013. Drummer Dennis Boolyoins was born and raised in Brazil's northeastern city of João Pessoa and he started his formal music education at the age of nine, attending classes at the Federal University of Paraíba (UFPB). Dennis holds the title of "XI Batuka! Master" after winning first place in Brazil's most prestigious international drum contest, Batuka! Brasil, 2010. While living in Brazil, he performed with several artists including Sivuca, Maria Creuza, Marinês, Lucy Alves, Oswaldinho do Acordeon, Letieres Leite, Antonio Barros e Cecéu, Proveta, Silvério Pontes, Paraiba Symphony Orchestra. Since 2014, when Dennis moved to NY to pursue a Master in Jazz Studies at Queens College, he has being involved with different artists and groups, playing and sharing the stage with names like: Helio Alves, Ari Hoenig, Eduardo Belo, Ehud Asherie, Roni Ben-Hur among many others. In 2022, Dennis published two books about Brazilian drumming. Since 2023 Dennis has been touring around the globe with Brazilian singer Bebel Gilberto playing music from her new album João. Chiara Izzi is an award-winning singer-songwriter from Italy who has been based in NYC since 2014, three years after Quincy Jones awarded her first prize in the 2011 Montreux International Jazz Festival Vocal Competition. Since arriving, she’s become one of New York’s busiest vocalists, sharing bandstands with such luminaries as Kevin Hays, Leon Parker, Ken Peplowski, Diego Figueiredo, Jeff Hamilton, Aaron Goldberg, Bruce Barth, Eliot Zigmund, Warren Wolf, and Anthony Wonsey. In an All About Jazz review Michael Bailey praised Izzi as “force of nature,” while in Jazz Times Travis Rogers described her as “a talent to be heard, admired and anticipated.” Chiara states: “My own music includes Brazilian influences, influences from classical music, and things from Pop and Jazz. I take ideas from whatever music I feel an affinity with, and then I try to make it my own."
