Violinist Zach Brock (Snarky Puppy) and Pianist Henry Hey (David Bowie) present their quartet - featuring the incredible driving force of bassist Matt Brewer and drummer Jeff 'Tain' Watts. Joshua2 is a prolific visual artist, civil rights activist, and singer/songwriter. Since moving to New York in 2013, he has created a unique blend of Pentacostal Blues music, Black history, and civil rights storytelling. While performing throughout Harlem and Manhattan in such clubs as Red Rooster, Silvana’s, Minton’s, Lenox Saphire, Paris Blues, Smoke, Ashford and Simpson’s Sugar Bar. he earned the nickname “The Reverend.” His band is comprised of notable musicians Ken Hatfield (lead guitar), George Gray (drums), Gene Torres (bass), and Marcus Persiani (keyboard). They have toured and performed with some of the best musicians and bands known, such as Dizzy Gillespie, Max Roach, Tito Puente, Stephanie Mills, Pat Benatar, Toni Braxton, Ben E. King, Eartha Kitt, Talking Heads, Earth, Wind, & Fire, and Sun Ra Arkestra, just to name a few. Joshua2 and the Dark Horse Band are returning to Uncle Cheef, and are looking forward to having a “wang-dang-doodle” of a night celebrating not just Black History Month, but the history of the country through the music of Blues! Pianist Jeremy Manasia has been a fixture on the New York City jazz scene for over 20 years, as an in-demand sideman, bandleader, composer, recording artist, and educator. His 6 records as a leader spotlight more than 40 compositions, and his bebop rooted, soulful, impressionistic sound on the piano. He has performed all over the world with many of the greatest living jazz musicians, including Gary Bartz, Al Foster, Jimmy Heath, Eddie Gomez, Louis Hayes, Javon Jackson, Willie Jones III, Peter Bernstein and Jimmy Cobb, and can be seen regularly in NYC venues: the Village Vanguard, Smalls, Mezzrow, Smoke, Dizzy’s and the Iridium. Sasha Dobson has performed all over the world in diverse contexts as a leader and first-call collaborator. The singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist represents one-third of hit trio Puss n Boots, alongside Catherine Popper and Blue Note Artist Norah Jones, with whose band Sasha has toured fairly regularly for the past eleven years. In addition to traveling the world as a three-dimensional performer, Sasha spent her early days in New York hitting as a leader at many of the city’s noted venues including Jazz at Lincoln Center and Smalls Jazz Club where she and her band are a regular fixture. In recent years, she’s led her own project at Farm Aid and opened for Willie Nelson. In 2020, Sasha released Simple Things, her anticipated EP featuring Don Was on bass and production and Jay Lane on drums. Her 2021 release of Girl Talk featuring guitarist Peter Bernstein reflects her most personal contribution to the music to date. Trumpeter PHILIP HARPER is a NYC based living legend of jazz and an Uncle Cheef favorite. He’s worked and recorded extensively with such musicians as “Little” Jimmy Scott, Jimmy McGriff, Betty Carter, Etta Jones, Harry “Sweets” Edison and Cedar Walton. Between the years 1986 and 1988 he was a member of Art Blakey´s Jazz Messengers, with whom he made several live recordings. His soulful, fiery and lyrical style has earned him the adoration of audiences worldwide through decades of touring and recording. Come see what everyone's talking about! And…..
