Pianist, accordionist and composer Ben Rosenblum has traversed a truly unique musical path, one that has seen him perform alongside world-class musicians across more than twenty music genres and fifteen countries, lead bands at prestigious venues across the world, all while maintaining a signature, melodic musical voice. Rosenblumâ's journey has taken him on tours with Grammy-winning pop artist Rickie Lee Jones and Juno-winning contemporary Indian singer Kiran Ahluwalia. His roots in jazz have led to an over ten-year relationship with Grammy-winning bassist Curtis Lundy, performing at festivals alongside jazz luminaries Bobby Watson, Sean Jones and Warren Wolf. He has appeared with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra on accordion, and as a guest soloist on piano at Carnegie Hall's Stern-Perelman Auditorium with Maestro Reona Itoâ's New York Harmonic Band. Throughout it all, Rosenblum has always maintained the same priority - to tell a compelling story with his music, reaching the hearts of his audience and connecting on an emotional, intellectual and spiritual level. Native New Yorker, keyboardist, singer and songwriter, Dave is a 30 year veteran of the Blues and American Roots music scenes. With the release of his 7th CD, “Rhythm, Blues and Boogie” October 21st, 2022, featuring special guest legendary drummer Bernard Purdie and others, the 3x Blues Music Award nominee returns to his own soulful roots, having toured the world both as a solo artist and with his own Dave Keyes Band. For much of the last 10 years, in addition to his own band and solo gigs, Dave worked with bluesman Popa Chubby, and R&B queen Ronnie Spector until her passing. Previously Dave had lengthy stints with such iconic and varied artists as Odetta, David Johansen, Bo Diddley, rockabilly legend Sleepy LaBeef and gospel great Marie Knight. "CONNECTED” was formed in 2020 during the COVID-19 lockdown. Richie Goods and Chien Chien had frequent conversations about the Black Lives Matter movement and the unwarranted hate crimes against Asians. They decided to do a project that would unify people and invoke imagery of love and peace. Chien Chien's foundation in classical music provides a rich and textured canvas that allowed their collaborative work to flourish. Her intricate knowledge of classical nuances intertwines seamlessly with Richie's R&B and funk background, creating an enchanting juxtaposition of genres that breathes life into their compositions. They decided to cement their musical relationship by creating “CONNECTED”, their band featuring Richie Goods on bass and Chien Chien on vibraphone, Quintin Zoto-guitar and Smithsonion-drums. CONNECTED won the 2023 Golden Melody award in Chien Chien's native Taiwan for Best Instrumental Album. A California native, David Morgan began playing piano at 5 years old. He started playing in bands at age 11 and hasn’t stopped! Moving to New Orleans in 1989 to study with jazz masters Ellis Marsalis and Harold Battiste at The University of New Orleans was a true turning point in his musical education. It was there that he studied by day and gigged with Nicholas Payton, Brian Blade, Brice Winston, James Rivers, Neal Caine and Jeremy Davenport by night. Moving to New York, his career took some wonderful turns. Performing with Peter Himmelman, Wynton Marsalis and actress Jane Lynch were some of the highlights. Pianist Tyler Henderson discovered jazz through the Vince Guaraldi Christmas album, and fell in love with the music. He completed a 5-year double degree program at Julliard in spring of 2024 and now has a bachelor’s and master’s in jazz studies. Since his arrival in New York, Tyler has been a sideman with many prominent musicians, such as Joe Magnarelli, Grant Stewart, Alex Claffy, Rodney Green, and Bruce Harris. He leads his own trio with Caleb Tobocman and Hank Allen-Barfield, and recently record his debut album, which will be released on the Cellar Live label in summer of 2025. Our featured guest this evening in none other than NYC based jazz vocalist Kate Kortum! Kate is a 2019-2021 Downbeat Magazine Student Music Award Winner and has performed at some of the world’s finest venues including the 2018 Newport Jazz Festival, 2022 SXSW Festival, the hit online show Emmets Place and the world renowned Birdland Jazz Club in New York City. Additionally she’s worked with fine musicians like Cyrille Aimee, Sheila Jordan, Charlie Rosen, and Bryan Carter. Charlie Hunter is a guitarist, composer and bandleader who first came to prominence in the early 1990s. Reaching audiences world wide through extensive touring and his 17 albums as a leader, Hunter plays custom-made seven and eight-string guitars, on which he simultaneously plays basslines, rhythm guitar, and solos. Critic Sean Westergaard describes Hunter's guitar technique as "mind-boggling ... he's an agile improviser with an ear for great tone, and always has excellent players alongside him in order to make great music, not to show off." Joining Mr Hunter is drumming sensation Carter McLean who is a powerhouse of taste, style and groove.
