Pianist Tyler Henderson discovered jazz through the Vince Guaraldi Christmas album, and fell in love with the music. He completed a 5-year double degree program at Julliard in spring of 2024 and now has a bachelor’s and master’s in jazz studies. Since his arrival in New York, Tyler has been a sideman with many prominent musicians, such as Joe Magnarelli, Grant Stewart, Alex Claffy, Rodney Green, and Bruce Harris. He leads his own trio with Caleb Tobocman and Hank Allen-Barfield, and recently record his debut album, which will be released on the Cellar Live label in summer of 2025. Our featured guest this evening in none other than NYC based jazz vocalist Kate Kortum! Kate is a 2019-2021 Downbeat Magazine Student Music Award Winner and has performed at some of the world’s finest venues including the 2018 Newport Jazz Festival, 2022 SXSW Festival, the hit online show Emmets Place and the world renowned Birdland Jazz Club in New York City. Additionally she’s worked with fine musicians like Cyrille Aimee, Sheila Jordan, Charlie Rosen, and Bryan Carter. Joshua2 is a prolific visual artist, civil rights activist, and singer/songwriter. Since moving to New York in 2013, he has created a unique blend of Pentacostal Blues music, Black history, and civil rights storytelling. While performing throughout Harlem and Manhattan in such clubs as Red Rooster, Silvana’s, Minton’s, Lenox Saphire, Paris Blues, Smoke, Ashford and Simpson’s Sugar Bar. he earned the nickname “The Reverend.” His band is comprised of notable musicians Ken Hatfield (lead guitar), George Gray (drums), Gene Torres (bass), and Marcus Persiani (keyboard). They have toured and performed with some of the best musicians and bands known, such as Dizzy Gillespie, Max Roach, Tito Puente, Stephanie Mills, Pat Benatar, Toni Braxton, Ben E. King, Eartha Kitt, Talking Heads, Earth, Wind, & Fire, and Sun Ra Arkestra, just to name a few. "DMZ" is a power trio of seasoned veterans that weaves a tapestry of unique soul and grooves like none other! Jerry Z is a Hammond B-3 organist known for soulful grooves, fiery solos and his unique, innovative approach to jazz/blues/funk. Emerging onto the New York City music scene in the 90’s, Jerry quickly became a sought after collaborator and performer, contributing his explosive Hammond B-3 sound to some of New York’s most influential and groundbreaking bands such as Oz Noy, Mike Clark, Melvin Sparks and many more. Acclaimed guitarist, composer and bandleader Bob DeVos has enjoyed over 50 years as an in-demand player. With long, blues-drenched melodic lines and a horn-like approach, he has a signature style of groove and sophistication. A master with a full, warm sound, in his formative years Bob toured and recorded with the giants of organ jazz–Trudy Pitts, Richard “Groove” Holmes & Sonny Stitt, Jimmy McGriff & Hank Crawford, and Charles “The Mighty Burner” Earland’s greatest band. Drummer Richie Morales is a versatile musician most recently touring with guitarist Al Di Meola. Charlie Hunter is a guitarist, composer and bandleader who first came to prominence in the early 1990s. Reaching audiences world wide through extensive touring and his 17 albums as a leader, Hunter plays custom-made seven and eight-string guitars, on which he simultaneously plays basslines, rhythm guitar, and solos. Critic Sean Westergaard describes Hunter's guitar technique as "mind-boggling ... he's an agile improviser with an ear for great tone, and always has excellent players alongside him in order to make great music, not to show off." Joining Mr Hunter is drumming sensation Carter McLean who is a powerhouse of taste, style and groove. Currently the drummer for The Lion King, Carter's has performed with a who's who of music over the years. Together, Charlie Hunter and Carter McLean duo is a huge sound and one not to be missed! Originally from LA, jazz pianist Bertha Hope-Booker is an 88 years young force of nature and a fountain of knowledge. After her husband’s passing in 1967 (famed pianist Elmo Hope), she continued to present his music and remained an active force in improvised music within the New York jazz scene. Bertha served as an artist-in-residence under the auspices of the New Jersey State Council on the Arts. Through this program, she performed in statewide New Jersey music workshops with Dizzy Gillespie, Frank Foster, Nat Adderley and Philly Joe Jones. She is a composer and arranger with several recordings under her name, including In Search of Hope and Elmo’s Fire (Steeplechase); Between Two Kings (Minor Records) and her latest on the Reservoir label, Nothin’ But Love. At 28, he’s played with jazz headliners like Pat Metheny, Chris Potter, Jeff “Tain” Watts, Stefon Harris, Eric Harland, and Terrace Martin, and racked up equally impressive credits in hip-hop and R&B: from shows with Ms. Lauryn Hill, José James, Common, and NAS, to studio time for Chance the Rapper’s Grammy-winning hit “No Problem”, Mark Ronson , Childish Gambino, YEBBA, Drake, and Kodak Black, to appearances with The Roots on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon alongside his mentor and friend Questlove.
